BLACKWOODS GIN LAUNCHES NEW VINTAGE

Blackwoods 2021 Vintage Range

The range includes: Vintage Gin (40% abv), Navy Strength (60% abv)
and Vodka (40% abv)

Blackwoods has announced a new 2021 vintage and premium branding refresh across the range. Ahead of the opening of its new home on the Ardgowan Estate in 2023, distillation and bottling of the 2021 vintage has been moved to Scotland.

ABOUT BLACKWOODS

Blackwoods Gin was born on the wild islands of Shetland, where the unforgiving seasonal weather means that different native botanical plants thrive each year, creating a unique vintage.

Now, Blackwoods has made the move to the mainland, where the shimmering lochs, rugged mountains, dense forests, and a global reputation for outstanding produce have inspired Blackwoods to seek out the very best native Scottish botanicals each year to create the ultimate Scottish gin.

2021 VINTAGE

The 2021 vintage uses ingredients from the Scottish coast including kelp, sea buckthorn and water mint for a classic gin with a fresh citrus flavour and a hint of spice.

The liquid has been developed in collaboration with award-winning Master Distiller, Sion Edwards.

The range includes the flagship Vintage Gin (40% abv), Navy Strength (60% abv) designed for cocktails, and Vodka (40% abv), also distilled with kelp, sea buckthorn and water mint, for a balanced, refreshing vodka that also makes for intriguing cocktails.

BRAND REDESIGN & PACKAGING

Working in collaboration with branding agency, Barlow & Co, the 2021 vintage launches with a brand refresh across the range.

The packaging has been designed to be sympathetic to the previous 2017 Vintage, retaining the brand’s elegant bespoke bottle and colour palette, but creating new contemporary labels that highlight Scottish provenance and botanicals, paired with premium finishes including foiling and emboss. The design also includes a new Blackwoods crest, which incorporates the spirit of Scotland through symbolism, including saltire, and Celtic-style patterns to represent the surrounding landscape and botanicals used.

Sustainability has been at the forefront of material choices for the 2021 vintage; labels are printed on uncoated, wood-free FSC-certified paper, bottles are UK made with circa 52% recycled glass, and caps made using recycled materials in a factory powered by 100% renewable energy.

BRAND FUTURE

In 2021, Distil, owners of Blackwoods, announced its investment into the Ardgowan Whisky Distillery being developed in Inverkip.

The development will feature a separate distillery for Blackwoods in a renovated stable building. Facilities will include a bespoke, Scottish-made still and visitor centre.

The Ardgowan Distillery is placing emphasis on sustainability, investing in the latest technologies throughout the distillery to reduce impact. Ardgowan Distillery has pledged to be carbon negative in its operations by 2024.
